Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges for societies worldwide, including Albania, forcing rapid adaptation to digital technologies in education, work, and social interaction. In Albania, the shift to online learning exposed significant digital gaps, particularly in rural and economically disadvantaged areas. This article explores the impact of the pandemic on the digital landscape of Albanian education, focusing on the adoption and use of digital tools during the crisis. It examines how platforms like Google Classroom, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams became central to the continuation of teaching and learning, while also highlighting the difficulties caused by limited access to technology and insufficient digital literacy among both teachers and students. Government-led initiatives, such as the “Digital Education” project, are evaluated in terms of their effectiveness in improving digital competencies. The article also discusses the long-term opportunities created by this accelerated digital transition, such as the potential for hybrid learning models and enhanced student engagement. Finally, it proposes key strategies for a successful digital transformation in education, emphasizing the importance of a clear vision, appropriate investment, continuous training, and fostering a culture of innovation to ensure a more inclusive and resilient educational system in Albania.
