Abstract

This paper aims to emphasize the importance of learning styles in the teaching and learning of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in the Albanian pre-university education. The learning styles discussed in this study include the visual, auditory, read/ write learning, and kinesthetic learning styles. These learning styles play a significant role in contemporary approaches to teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language. The main hypothesis of this paper is that combining different learning styles can stimulate, facilitate, and enhance student-centered teaching, differentiated instruction and competency-based learning. The focus of this study is the analysis of learning styles in English language teaching and learning in Albania, compared with practices in other countries. The study examines the main problems and challenges associated with teaching and learning English in Albanian pre-university education. It also explores the importance and influence of various factors, actors, and the Albanian educational context on the quality of the English language learning. The research employs a mixed-methods apporach, combining quantitative data collected through student surveys with qualitative data derived from a case study of a pedagogical experience. The findings highlight the importance of student-centred teaching approach that equips learners with the knowledge, skills and competences necessary for everyday life and active citizenship. The study also offers practical recommendations for implementing learning styles effectively within the context of Albanian pre-university education.
